HOBAN HEADLINES

 Cartier Bickley shines in Beacon Journal spotlight
Senior basketball player Cartier Bickley appeared in the High School Spotlight, a weekly feature of the Akron Beacon Journal and Ohio.com, on Feb. 16. According to the paper, he “scored 11 points in a 59-57 overtime loss at St. Vincent-St. Mary and scored a season-high 18 points in a 76-59 league win at Mentor Lake Catholic.” Hoban is 17-2 overall and, with two conference games remaining, has clinched the North Coast League Blue Division championship with an 8-0 league record.
Two Hoban mock trial teams qualify for state competition
Hoban will send two teams to the state mock trial competition following regional competition on Feb. 10. The Blue and Gold teams won their respective trials at the Summit County Courthouse and will represent Hoban in Columbus March 9-11.

At regionals, Outstanding Attorney awards were earned by seniors Katie Clark, Bryce Dzubara and Colin Fricker , and junior Maria Dhinojwala. Outstanding Witness awards were given to seniors Mackenzie Deighen and Lauren Shoemaker and  juniors Leah Hall, Svea Hall and Ellie Redle.

Team Sotomayor, Hoban's third team at regionals, lost to Perry. Perry eventually qualified for state also, along with Lake and St. Vincent-St. Mary.
National Honor Society to hold blood drive
Hoban's chapter of the National Honor Society will be sponsoring a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Alumni Gym. Students, parents, teachers and other adults are encouraged to donate. All blood types are needed to help maintain a sufficient blood supply. Girls bowling team takes conference championship
The girls varsity bowling team won its 16th match to become the Greater Summit County Conference champions. The Knights defeated Kenmore, the other division leader, by over 240 pins. Hoban had a team score of 2,594. Senior Melanie Bielecki had the high game of 184 and high series of 352. Hoban also won the conference tournament, beating Akron North by over 100 pins and defeating nine other teams. Junior Emily Huber bowled the conference high game of 277 for the season and high two-game series for the season of 491.
