Alma Mater & Fight Song

  Alma Mater  Fight Song
Hoban High, your students proud
Sing and loudly praise
Loyal, true, amid the crowd
Our voices loudly raise
Building upon our history
Which never is complete
Our depth of pride no mystery
Each challenge we will meet
Upon these rocks we stand as one
All Christians strong and true
Till our time on earth is done
We shall be true to you!

Fight for Hoban's glory
Strong, brave and true
Now all together
Smash that line right through
'Gainst the Knights in blue
They can't prevail
All cheer for Hoban High
We'll never fail!

Lyrics by Mark S. Schweitzer '76
Music by Brother Eugene Weisenberger, C.S.C.
Sung to the tune of "Our Director"
by F.E. Bigelow

Historical note 1: Today's alma mater is not the original. In 1976, amid some dissatisfaction with the original alma mater, a contest was held to write a new one. Mark S. Schweitzer '76 won with the current lyrics. Brother Eugene Weisenberger, who taught music at Hoban at the time, set the lyrics to music.  The text of the original alma mater follows.

Here on our hill with hearts so near the skies
Faithful until these rocks no longer rise
Over the town, this town from which we grew
Let each Knight through very fight, through win or loss
Touch that sky for Hoban High, for Holy Cross
Ever true, true to you

Historical note 2: The lyrics to the fight song were altered slightly in 1973, when the school became coeducational. The line "All cheer for Hoban High" was once "Men cheer for Hoban High."
