Campus Ministry

Current Service Opportunities

Project HOPE takes food to the homeless and visits with them in downtown Akron each Wednesday evening. Monthly sign-up sheets can be found on the campus ministry bulletin board. See Mr. Horinger or Mr. Milo.

Campus ministry is open to students of all religious backgrounds as a way to truly experience their faith beyond the classroom setting.  It is organized to serve three major functions that complement the religious studies curriculum. These functions are service, retreats and liturgy.

The campus ministry team consists of the campus ministers and a group of students forming a leadership body called the campus ministry core group.  The team works in partnership with the religious studies faculty to present retreats and service projects.  Students may participate in campus ministry on two levels:  as participants in general campus ministry events and service projects; and as student members of the campus ministry core group.

The campus ministers are responsible for planning and directing all litrugies, prayer services, retreats and service project approvals.  They act as chaplains for the student body, faculty and staff.

The campus ministers are:

Mr. Scott Kopp,

Scott Kopp, Hoban's director of campus ministry, has written a book entitled Postmodernism and Youth Ministry. The book, published by Wipf and Stock, is written for all who work with youth and young adults in ministry. It provides an introduction to working with youth today by blending postmodern theory with current practice in youth ministry. Kopp's book shows that young people in the postmodern period yearn for an encounter with God.

Faith & Service

As educators in the faith, Hoban seeks to transform people from within.  We teach in order to nurture people who comprehend reality from the perspective of faith.  Integral to this approach is the opportunity for individual and communal spiritual growth.  A Holy Cross education fosters the values, attitudes and behaviors necessary for indiviuals to make a real difference in the world.
