Like most human endeavors, science is a multidimensional discipline, involving not only a large body of factual data but also historical, societal and human dimensions. A basic scientific literacy is necessary to enhance understanding and awareness for living in a technological society. An understanding of the multifaceted nature of the scientific process should demystify the source of scientific knowledge—the scientists themselves—and make students aware that the world around them is the real laboratory of science learning.
In addition to traditional factual knowledge, science courses at Hoban are designed to emphasize the mental discipline involved in identifying and defining problems for investigation, the organizational and psychomotor skills necessary to function efficiently in the laboratory, critical thinking by evaluation of laboratory data and science-related social issues and clarity of expression to convey ideas precisely.
