Archbishop Hoban High School is a private coeducational Catholic high school in the
Diocese of Cleveland sponsored by the
Brothers of Holy Cross. In the spirit of
Blessed Basil Moreau, the founder of the
Congregation of Holy Cross, the school's vision is to develop in its graduates the competence to see and the courage to act.
Originally chartered as a comprehensive school, Hoban has always endeavored to ensure equity and diversity. It serves students with a variety of abilities and backgrounds and unites them into a community where the gifts and talents of each person are appreciated. To meet the varied needs of its students, the school offers a comprehensive course of studies as well as a wide array of athletic opportunities and cocurricular activities.
The school was rechartered as a special-purpose, college preparatory school in 2009. Blessed Basil Moreau believed society has a greater need for people of values than for scholars. Hoban's mission is to provide an educational atmosphere centered in gospel values, high expectations and achievement. The school respects the principles of democracy and acknowledges the God-given freedoms of each person.
The gospel calls Christians to a deeper love of God and one another. Through their studies, students develop a knowledge of their faith and of the scriptures. They are motivated to a life of prayer, spiritual growth and participation in worship and the sacraments. An active campus ministry program and a program of Christian service instill a sense of compassion and a willingness to reach out in service to the needy and less fortunate.
A curriculum of studies tailored to the student's individual needs encourages students to reach their full academic potential. An orderly, yet creative learning environment fosters students' growth. Course work challenges students to become effective communicators, analytical and complex thinkers and effective problem solvers.
Blessed Basil Moreau taught that education of the heart is as important as education of the mind. Hoban is a Christian community where educators in the faith lead students to mature physically, academically and spiritually. The school's graduates have learned to care for themselves, for others and for God's creation.
