Counselors are available to help students. Students are urged to get to know their counselors and to make an appointment to see them when the counselor's help is needed. Counseling help is given in matters of academic, vocational and personal concern. The guidance office is prepared to aid the student in planning his or her course of study.
Counselors help students design schedules that meet individual needs. Hoban graduates successfully advance to higher education, often at some of the finest colleges and universities in the country. Recent alumni report how well prepared they are for their college coursework and campus life.
The guidance staff includes five counselors and a school psychologist. Professional tutoring is available for students who need help with math or reading and for students with specific learning disabilities. Three guidance counselors focus on college planning, working with the same students during both junior and senior years. The faculty-guided Student Achievement Seminar provides support for selected freshmen as they adjust to the demands of high school.
Students may obtain counseling appointment slips from the guidance center. These forms are to be filled out and returned to the basket in the guidance center one day before the actual appointment. The slips will be returned to the student for verification of the appointment.
