Because of the earthquake in Haiti and the presence of Holy Cross missions in Port-au-Prince, at the center of the earthquake area, several activities were sponsored by campus ministry to collect funds to send to the Holy Cross missions.
On Tuesday, Jan 19, an all-school jeans day was held to collect donations to send to Haiti. Receipts from the fundraiser came to $1,181.
On Wednesday, Jan. 20, the Hoban community observed the Memorial of Blessed Basil Moreau, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross at an all-school Mass. For disaster relief and to support the Holy Cross missions in Haiti, there was a special collection. During the offertory there was a procession for the entire congregation. Baskets were placed in each section for donations. Those who were not able to give were asked to simply touch the basket as a sign of prayers and support. The collection brought in $1,860.38.
Other activities are being scheduled for the week of Jan. 25.
