Hoban is planning for a safe return to on-campus learning
Our academic mission is more important than ever as students need to be in school for academic, social, spiritual, mental and emotional, physical and nutritional reasons. We are committed to offering a full Hoban experience to our community in as normal a manner as possible. To do this, the first and most fundamental consideration is the safety and well-being of our students, our Holy Cross educators and our families.
Knights Reunite is a framework for a responsible and successful restart and will be our guide in the 2020-21 academic year. Hoban’s plan to reopen aligns with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Summit County Public Health Department, and the Governor’s office. The plan outlined below has been created to be as comprehensive as possible, though we realize that the plan will not answer every question. We will continue to update the plan, and those updates are indicated to allow for ease of use to our students and parents.
CLASSROOM-BASED EXPOSURE - GUIDELINES FROM SUMMIT COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH
RETURNING ALL SENIORS TO CAMPUS
CLASS OF 2021 | TUESDAY, FEB. 16
All seniors, who choose to do so, will return to campus five days a week on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Please be aware that if the student chooses to return five days/week, we ask for a commitment through the end of the year. Students and families may also choose to remain on their assigned hybrid or fully-remote schedule. Only students who choose to remain in their assigned hybrid or fully-remote schedule or who have excused absences will be permitted to learn virtually.
RETURNING ALL JUNIORS, SOPHOMORES AND FRESHMEN TO CAMPUS
CLASSES OF 2022, 2023 AND 2024 | MONDAY, MARCH 1
Families with students in grades 9, 10 and 11 may choose to send their students five days a week beginning Monday, March 1. ALL families are asked to complete a survey by Friday, Feb. 12 to indicate students who wish to be on campus five days a week. It will be assumed that any family that does not complete the survey will keep their children hybrid until March 16. Once a family makes the decision for their student to return to campus five days a week, we ask that you commit to the decision for the remainder of the school year. Only students with excused absences may sign on remotely.
END OF HYBRID SCHEDULE
Assuming the phased return to campus does not impact our school community and trends in the state and county continue to decline, Hoban will discontinue the hybrid schedule on Wednesday, March 16.
Knights Reunite operates according to the following assumptions:
Hoban's learning model decisions will be based primarily on trends within the school, the building, and the surrounding community.
Up until now, Hoban’s plan has aligned with the Ohio Public Health Advisory System. We have used the color level of Summit County – updated weekly by the state – to determine decisions regarding Hoban’s learning environment. Effective immediately, those decisions will be made by the administration and not depend solely on the county’s status. In ongoing conversations with Summit County Public Health officials, we have learned that there is not a direct correlation between the county code and the number of cases in schools. While the county’s color will continue to factor in our evaluation of the school’s status, the Hoban administration will base decisions primarily on trends within the school, the building, and the surrounding community. We anticipate giving students and families as much advance notice as possible should we be required to make any future changes.
Hoban students will return in January in the hybrid model.
