Dear Hoban Parents and Students,
With Monday’s announcement from Governor DeWine came the disappointing reality that we won’t be together on campus again this school year. In this unprecedented situation, no one anticipated that March 12 would be our last day together as a school community. We are all grieving this news together. Every conversation I have with faculty, staff, or families starts with how much we all miss being together.
I have been so proud of the hard work and dedication our students have demonstrated over the last weeks. They have shown strength and courage to face this challenging situation and have done so with grace and compassion for their friends and family. It certainly makes us all proud to be part of the Hoban family.
Our dedicated faculty will continue in the coming weeks to deliver online learning, keeping our Holy Cross mission of educating hearts and minds at the center of everything. Counselors and administrators will check-in regularly with students on their academic and social-emotional well-being. Campus Ministry will continue to provide prayer and faith opportunities. And our fantastic student leaders in Student Council will work to lighten our spirits with fun activities.
At this time, we do have a few updates regarding the end of the year.
- There will be no final exams this year. Semester grades will be determined by Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 grades.
- The last day of classes for our seniors is May 13.
- The last day of classes for our freshmen, sophomores, and juniors is May 22.
Plans are being finalized for students to drop off iPads, textbooks, and athletic uniforms at Hoban and to give them the opportunity to clean out lockers. This will require detailed coordination to ensure safety and social distancing measures are in place. We hope to share details of that process at the end of next week.
In the coming days and weeks, we will make determinations about summer events and activities in conjunction with health and safety directives from Governor DeWine and the City of Akron.
Please keep the Hoban family in prayer and as always reach out if you have any questions.
