Rising senior Abrianna Johnson has been named 2020 Youth of the Year by the Akron chapter of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve. She received a $1,000 scholarship at a ceremony Feb. 8. She is planning a career in nuclear physics and hopes to attend Ohio State University.
“We were looking for someone who has been involved with the club and with the community and has had academic success,” said Ken Wood, director of communications for Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio. [Johnson] is a very good representative of the club.”
Johnson will compete against youths from Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio, the organization formed by the merger of clubs in Akron, Cleveland, Lorain County and Sandusky. The winner is to be announced the week of March 23 and will take part in the state competition in April.
