Anatomy students experience living without thumbs
Amie Macine’s Anatomy students had a lab on Feb. 28 that involved “losing” their thumbs. They experienced what it is like to try everyday tasks with a disability. They had the choice to continue the experience for 24 hours to get an even better idea of what it’s like. If their “thumblessness” would cause a problem in another class, the teacher could ask them to remove the string reminder on their hands for the period. The lab provided the opportunity to walk in someone else’s shoes.
