International Politics students participate in cross-cultural research project

International Politics students participate in cross-cultural research project

Fourteen Hoban students are participating in a cross-cultural research project with students from Brazil, Spain, China and Rwanda sponsored by Kent State University, Stark Office of Global Initiatives. Throughout the school year, student groups will develop independent research projects with guidance from Kent State faculty. They will present their research products to university staff at the conclusion of the school year.

The guest speaker series associated with the project continues.

On Oct. 30, Dr. Bei Cai, associate professor of Communication Studies at Kent State University, spoke with the class regarding the intricacies of Intercultural Communications in business, educational and diplomatic settings.

On Nov. 17, Claire Nelson, of US Aid and Power Africa in Rwanda, presented on her work with empowering women through work in the Energy sector in Rwanda. Pacifique Niyonzima, a Doctoral Candidate at Kent State, shared his experiences as a child during the Rwandan genocide and discussed Rwanda's subsequent recovery.

On Dec. 3, Sarah Schmidt from the Office of Global Initiatives presented to students on the development and application of collegiate level research methods.

Coming Spring Semester: Students will participate in a series of workshops with a Nobel Peace Laureate. The seminar will include training, lectures and activities related to international peace studies.
