Junior receives gold medal in National Scholastic Art and Writing contest

Junior Abigail Joyner has received a Gold Medal in the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her photograph, “Stolen.” Nearly 230,000 artworks were submitted by 80,000 students nationwide in 2020. Of those artworks, 2,000 received a National Medal. In describing the process of creating this image Joyner explained that she almost deleted it because the camera strap had fallen in front of the lens. When she saw that it created a nice dark shadow she decided to work with it. Her art piece will be on display in a virtual exhibit starting in June.
