Student-athletes recognized at Akron Preps awards banquet
Three Hoban athletes were named player of the year in their respective sports at the inaugural Best of Greater Akron Preps banquet June 11 at the John S. Knight Center. The Beacon Journal honored top performers in 26 sports. Lonasia Brewer took player of the year honors in girls basketball, Nolan Rumler in football offense and DeaMonte Trayanum in football defense. Other Hoban athletes invited were Matt Salopek, Tyris Dickerson, (football); Bridget Hahn (cross country); Josh Wright, Solomon Petrie (golf); Justin Chalfant, Miriam Szijarto (soccer); Michael Heller (swimming); Megan Hutson (track and field; Ryan Wiedt (lacrosse); Mack Timbrook, and Mason Tipton (baseball). Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis was special guest.
