Spectator Policies

Several changes have been made to improve the safety and security of all spectators during athletic events in Barry Gym:

• There is no re-entry to the game once ticket-holding patrons have left the building.
• Spectators are required to leave the building 15 minutes after the end of the last game.
• Spectators are required to pay admission for all levels of play, including freshman games.

SPORTSMANSHIP

Hoban commits itself, as a school community, to sportsmanship in all athletic and cocurricular competitions. Student athletes, parents, families, employees and fans respect opponents and act as hospitable hosts and gracious guests, displaying appropriate Christian conduct at all times. Parents, students and others who act inappropriately will be addressed immediately and/or removed from the event or competition venue. Trash chants, provocative signage and language will not be tolerated. Positive sportsmanship is instituted by the athletic office, and sportsmanship will be made a point of emphasis at all preseason meetings with student athletes, coaches, volunteers and parents.

TAILGATING

1. RESPECTFUL CONDUCT IS EXPECTED
   Profanity, aggressive behavior, and unsportsmanlike conduct are not permitted. Similarly, although music is permitted, Hoban does not permit songs with vulgar or obscene lyrics. Out of respect for everyone, it is expected that tailgaters and spectators keep music volume at a moderate level. Finally, tailgaters are responsible for removing all trash generated while tailgating. Please be considerate and leave the property as you found it.
2. TIME RESTRICTIONS
   Due to school activities and security concerns during school hours, no tailgating activities are permitted to begin before 4:45 p.m. on game days. All tailgating activity must end, and all tailgating items must be removed, by 11 p.m. Tailgaters should occupy only the space they need. Tailgating should not impede the general flow of traffic, or use a space intended for a parked car. School officials, security personnel or law enforcement officers may direct tailgaters to comply.
3. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE PROHIBITED
   The Handbook of OHSAA Regulations states: The sale, distribution or consumption of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs is not permitted at the site of any content involving OHSAA member schools.
   To ensure that tailgates at Hoban athletic events represent the school’s values and are in compliance with OHSAA regulations, the school requires that all tailgaters comply with the following guidelines:
   
   No one participating in tailgate activities is permitted to sell, possess or consume alcoholic beverages. This policy is consistent with Hoban’s student wellness initiative and commitment to providing education regarding the negative impacts of, among other things, the excessive or illegal consumption of alcohol. Beyond the need to serve as positive role models, spectators should be in attendance to enjoy and support the hard work of the student athletes, coaches and other students without alcohol before, during and after the events on campus. To that end, Hoban invites guests and spectators to remain in the stands, not in the parking lots.
   
   Hoban occasionally hosts events at which alcoholic beverages are available, and these events are sanctioned by the school administration, monitored and controlled by school officials, security personnel or law enforcement officers. The use of alcoholic beverages in all other instances is prohibited on Hoban property.

Violators of these policies may, at the sole discretion of Hoban administrators, be asked to leave the premises. Hoban has the right to request intercession by law enforcement authorities if requests are ignored and/or refused.
