Prayer of the Day

The Spes Unica is the symbol for the Congregation of Holy Cross and is Latin for "Hail to the Cross, our only hope."

Each school day at the beginning of second period, Hoban students and staff pause for prayer. An assigned reader announces the intentions and leads the prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance over the public address system. Check daily so that you may share in our prayers for the selected donors of the day, for each of us and for our world.

  • God, my friend, I offer you this day. Let all my prayer, work, joy and suffering today join with the lives offered to you by the whole people of God and especially with our great Eucharist, Jesus, your son and our brother. Let your Spirit be with me today and remind me through the day that I am not alone. Amen.

Thought for the Day

From the writings of Blessed Basil Moreau, founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross:
  • By zeal is understood that flame of burning desire that one feels to make God known, loved and served, and so bring salvation to others. (Christian Education)
The thoughts for each day are taken from Gravitating Toward God, compiled by Joel Giallanza, CSC, and published by the Holy Cross Institute at St. Edward's University, 3001 S. Congress Ave. CMB 757, Austin, Texas 78704-6489 USA
