Named Scholarships

Anthony Grimaldi '05 loved Hoban, especially the diversity of the Hoban community. He was passionate about Hoban football and wanted to play in college. Anthony was also gifted artistically and wanted to be a graphic artist. He had a beautiful, infectious smile that made your day. Anthony is the oldest of three sons of Bob Grimaldi '75 and Juli (Musci) Grimaldi '78 to attend Hoban. The Grimaldi's & Musci's have a long Hoban legacy. The recipients of this scholarship should have a great, great desire to be a Hoban Knight, work to their academic potential, and be involved in cocurriculars and student activities. 

The Associates of St. Joseph established this scholarship to assist students with financial need who are involved in co-curricular activities, perform exemplary service and whose academic performance is commensurate with their abilities. Students may apply for this scholarship as an incoming freshman, and it is renewable if the student continues to follow the previously mentioned parameters.

The Aylward Family Scholarship was created upon the passing of family patriarch Mr. William (Bill) Aylward. Four Aylward children attended Archbishop Hoban. Mr. Aylward was presented the "Friend of Hoban" Award in 1999 for his work on our Lay Advisory Board that helped to keep the school open during the closing crisis of 1976. This scholarship was created for well-rounded, involved students who are respected by their classmates. St. Sebastian students are preferred. 

This scholarship was created by Brother Ken Haders in 1999 to honor Brother James Caley, C.S.C. It will be awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need, work to their ability and contribute to Hoban through their involvement. 

Brother Paul Kelly C.S.C., has been honored with the "Friend of Hoban" Award for his years of service at Hoban in the 1960's, 1970's and 1990's when he served as President of the school. Over the years, he held many positions at Hoban, and his love of the school led him to create a scholarship to help well-rounded, involved students receive a Holy Cross education at Archbishop Hoban High School.

The Burke Family Scholarship was established to help good students benefit from a Holy Cross education at Archbishop Hoban High School. Mr. & Mrs. Burke sent their children to Archbishop Hoban and were interested in helping others do the same. Preference will be given to students with strong academic potential who are also involved in the school community.

Cheryl was a loyal Hoban Knight. She loved the school and the friends that she made here. This scholarship will be awarded to well-rounded, involved students with financial need. Students should work to their ability academically and take part in school activities. Students should have a strong desire to attend Hoban. 

This scholarship was started by Brian DeCenzo ‘00 to honor his parents, Chris & Mary Anne, for supporting the four DeCenzo children through many years of Catholic education. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of a Catholic grade school who has good academic ability, demonstrates financial need, and will be involved in the school community. 

In honor of Hoban's first graduating class in 1957, Joseph Shannon and Dennis Murphy have chosen to establish the Class of ’57/Shannon endowed scholarship in tribute to their classmates, demonstrating their belief in Hoban's Holy Cross mission and exemplifying what it means to be True to You. This is a need-based scholarship awarded to incoming freshmen men and women exemplifying financial need who embrace Hoban's core values and Holy Cross mission through volunteerism, cocurricular activites or athletics. 

The Class of 1960 scholarship is for Catholic students who want to benefit from a Holy Cross education as members of the Class of 1960 did. Students receiving this scholarship should be well-rounded, active students with leadership capabilities. Grades should be commensurate with ability, but academic achievement is not the major focus of this scholarship. 

This scholarship reflects on the legacy of the Class of 1967 and the indelible mark this class has left on Hoban. From the iconic "The Hoban Word" that continues to welcome travelers on I-76, to the incredible moments during the opening of the 1967-time capsule and the moving renditions of the Star-Spangled Banner during "Come Home to Hoban" weekends, this class has continuously exemplified the Holy Cross values that make Archbishop Hoban High School a truly special place. This scholarship, in honor of the men from the class of 1967, should be given to a student with a legacy to the Class of 1967 or legacy to Hoban and must have a financial need. This could include single parents or families with lower total household incomes. These students must also show a willingness to work to their potential while attending Hoban.

Clemons J. Caraboolad was an outstanding teacher and coach who had a unique way of reaching and inspiring students. This scholarship was created by one of his students and fellow football players who were positively impacted by Coach C. Students should show financial need, have a wide range of interests and be involved in school activities.

The Reymann family established this scholarship for Catholic students from St. Matthew Parish to honor their parents Clem & Margie and their strong belief in Catholic education.  Recipients must be of good character, be active in their parish community, participate in sports or co-curricular activities, and maintain grades commensurate with their abilities.  Recipients must also show demonstrated need, as well as display an earnest desire to attend Hoban.

The Conrad E. Stuecheli Memorial Scholarship was created by his sons to honor their father for the importance he put on their Catholic education. This scholarship is for students from Saint Paul Parish or other Cleveland Diocese Catholic grade schools who demonstrate financial need and show the ability to work hard and be involved at Archbishop Hoban High School.

The Coudriet Family Scholarship was created to help students with need attend Archbishop Hoban High School. Recipients should be well-rounded, hard-working and involved in the school community. They should be willing to challenge themselves and be willing to grow academically and spiritually.

Daniel J. Dietzler '68 passed away from meningitis when he was a student at the University of Notre Dame. Daniel was an excellent student at Hoban and Notre Dame. His parents made it a goal to endow a scholarship at Archbishop Hoban High School that would support numerous students. Recipients of this scholarship should be hardworking, good to excellent students, well-rounded, and involved in the school community.

The Dankoff Family (Joe, Tracy, Abigail and Sam) established this need-based and merit-based scholarship. Providing this scholarship is a testament to the Dankoff family’s commitment to Hoban’s Holy Cross education and tradition.

This scholarship should be awarded to a deserving student whose family demonstrates a financial need to enroll their son or daughter at Hoban.
Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic or cocurricular achievement, such as high grades, test scores and/or leadership experience. Must maintain a 3.0 GPA average. If an incoming freshman is awarded this scholarship Hoban can grant this award all four years if the student continues to meet all criteria listed above. 

The Davey Family Scholarship is intended for an academically strong student from an underrepresented demographic. Preference should be given to a student of a refugee or first-generation immigrant family with deep financial need.   

The Sain family established this scholarship in memory of their son, David. Roman Catholic students who value the opportunity to receive a Catholic education but who have a financial burden are eligible for this scholarship.

The David Henry Memorial Scholarship is for a hard-working, well-rounded, involved student who works to his/her ability and shows some demonstrated financial need.

The Showers Scholarship is a renewable partial scholarship awarded for financial need to incoming ninth grade students. Recipients will be students who maintain grades commensurate with their abilities and make significant contributions through Christian service and involvement in their school and church communities.

The Del Medico Family has had a long history at Archbishop Hoban High School. This scholarship will be awarded to hard-working, well-rounded students with financial need. 

The Derek D. ’93, Karen and Donald C. ’67 Mullen Scholarship is a need-based scholarship that was founded in memory and honor of Charles and Mary Mullen and all the deceased graduates of the classes of 1967 and 1993. When applicable, funds will be awarded to a student(s) struggling academically, while maintaining passing grades, and putting forth significant effort. The award may be granted to incoming freshmen or current students.

Bernadette Harris created this scholarship to honor her late husband. It will be awarded to graduates of Immaculate Heart of Mary School who demonstrate some financial need and show a good work ethic, the ability to work to their academic ability and be involved in the school.

From 1959 to 1993, Donald D. Schubert served Archbishop Hoban High School in a variety of capacities:  athletic director, coach, business manager and teacher. Don and his wife, Doris, sent seven children to Archbishop Hoban. Scholarships therefore should focus on a large family with financial need. Priority will be given to families who have had children enrolled in school at the home parishes of the Schubert grandchildren:  St. Vincent de Paul, St. Francis de Sales and Saints Philip and James.

The Wartko Family Scholarship is awarded to well-rounded students with financial need whose academic achievement is commensurate with their ability and who contribute to the Hoban community through involvement in co-curricular activities.

Dr. Larry Timpe '63 and his wife, Darlene, have established this scholarship to help students attend Archbishop Hoban High School. Larry & Darlene know that an education in the Holy Cross tradition will provide students not only with specific subject matter, but also critical thinking skills and a moral compass that will guide them through life. This scholarship will be awarded to a student(s) who will today contribute to the Hoban community through their involvement in the school and thus learn to be involved in their greater local, state and national communities. Academic performance should be commensurate with the student’s ability (2.00 minimum GPA) and is not an overriding aspect of the scholarship. An appreciation of the education the student is receiving and involvement are most important. Students should show some demonstrated financial need.

The Drexler Family Scholarship will be awarded to well-rounded students who work to their potential, are involved in the school community and have some financial need.

This scholarship is for an academically strong minority student from Hoban's East Akron neighborhood who demonstrate financial need. The student(s) should be willing to become involved in the school community and achieve good grades.

In keeping with Mr. and Mrs. Foley's strong belief in Christian education, this scholarship is open to students from Saint Sebastian parish. Recipients should show some financial need and be well-rounded, hard-working students who will contribute to the Hoban community.

The Francis & Rose Sullivan Scholarship is open to well-rounded, involved students who value Catholic education and need financial assistance. This scholarship will be awarded to students whose potential performance at Archbishop Hoban will show solid academic achievement and generous involvement.

Philip Maynard has been a leader at Archbishop Hoban High School, in the City of Akron and in the Diocese of Cleveland. His life is the definition of "servant leader."  More than any other criteria, the recipients of this scholarship should demonstrate leadership in their grade school backgrounds. Students must also have some financial need. 

Recipients of this scholarship should reside in Akron/Summit County, demonstrate the ability to succeed at Archbishop Hoban High School, show a willingness to be involved in the school community and have financial need.

This scholarship is for Akron/Summit County minority students with a desire to attend Archbishop Hoban High School. Recipients should be willing to work hard, be involved in the school community, demonstrate the ability to succeed at Hoban, and show significant financial need.

The Gene and Howard Considine Family Scholarship is awarded to young men and women who embrace the values and mission of Archbishop Hoban High School. The scholarship recognizes financial need as well as involvement in the Hoban experience (i.e., volunteering, community outreach, co-curricular activities, student government, work crew and more).

Steve & Cathy Hammersmith have three children who graduated from Archbishop Hoban High School. They continue to be believers in the educational philosophy of the Congregation of Holy Cross, and they remain involved in the school. The Hammersmith Family Scholarship is for a well-rounded student who works to his/her ability academically, is involved in the Hoban community and demonstrates some financial need.

Henry Thomas believed in Catholic education and sent three children to Archbishop Hoban High School.  This scholarship was created in his memory and is open to all incoming 9th graders from Catholic or public grade schools. Grades are not all-important in awarding this scholarship. It will be awarded to a well-rounded, involved student. Demonstrated financial need is necessary, and students from a single-parent household will receive preference.

The Legends of Holy Cross Scholarship honors the Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross for their wonderful service to the school since 1953. This scholarship should be awarded to well-rounded, involved students who work to their ability and who want to benefit from a Holy Cross education. Money donated to Hoban in the name of any Holy Cross Brother will be credited to this scholarship.

The Hugh M. O’Neil Scholarship should be awarded on the basis of need to young people who value the opportunity to receive a Hoban education. Recipients will be expected to maintain grades commensurate with their ability, to involve themselves in volunteer programs, and to participate in co-curriculars.

The Vocke family established this scholarship in memory of James Shannon Vocke, Class of 1968. This scholarship is to be awarded to a "well-rounded student who has shown an interest in sports, studies, and his fellow students ... to keep alive the principles James lived for."

John & Jean Lanshe had a long history at Archbishop Hoban High School with four children attending in the 1970's and 1980's and numerous grandchildren also attending. They remained involved as volunteers at the school for many, many years. The recipient of this scholarship will be a well-rounded student who works to his or her ability.

John & Marge Fedorovich sent three sons, Nick '70, Rick '70 and Dennis '79 through Archbishop Hoban High School. They were strong believers in Catholic education and in the Holy Cross mission of "educating the mind and hearts" of students. Recipients of this scholarship should be well-rounded, involved in co-curricular activities, and should maintain grades commensurate to their abilities.  Scholarship awardees should show some financial need.

The John P. (Jack) Bahmer Family Scholarship is a need-based scholarship for students with strong academic potential.  Preference will be given to families who are parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. If no IHM parishioners meet the criteria, the scholarship may be given to students attending local Catholic grade schools.

Guenter Posjena '61 started this scholarship to honor his parents who were German immigrants to America. An immigrant or first-generation student, willing to work hard and be involved in the school is the preferred recipient of this scholarship. 

The Joseph Davis Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to students who have extreme financial need, excellent character, above average academic ability, and the potential for superior academic performance.

This need-based scholarship was established in 2009 by John and Judith Krajewski who have three daughters who are Hoban graduates. This scholarship should be awarded to a student with financial need who resides within the City limits of Akron.

The Kukta Family Scholarship is need-based and should be given to a deserving student living in either Wayne or Stark County.

The LaRose Scholarship is awarded to well-rounded students with financial need who contribute to the Hoban community through solid academic and cocurricular involvement. 

Lawrence Fanelli was a 1967 graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School where he played football and baseball. He was a leader both on and off the field and was a proud and valued member of the Hoban family. His three children all went on to graduate from Hoban (Leia ’99, Santino ’00, Anthony ’02). This is a need-based scholarship for students who demonstrate financial need to attend Archbishop Hoban High School. This student should also demonstrate academic achievement by working to their abilities. 

This scholarship was created in memory of Les Radwany ’60. Les retired at the age of 78 and served his clients well. His mascot was a bulldog because he was tenacious in researching and finding his clients the best products to suit their needs. He said, "The three most important things in business are integrity, integrity and integrity!" 
This scholarship is for any Hoban student who has been adopted or been through the foster care system. The scholarship recognizes financial need as well as involvement in the Hoban community through volunteerism, cocurricular activities, athletics and more. 

Paul & JoAnn Marcinkoski had six children graduate from Archbishop Hoban High School. Paul, an architect, also volunteered to oversee many construction projects at Hoban. This scholarship was created to help families with need pay for a Hoban education. Students should be well-rounded, involved and work to their ability.

This scholarship was established by the Baboila family in memory of Marie, a 1977 Hoban graduate. The recipient should be a hard-working and well-rounded student with financial need.

Chuck & Rosalie McDermott had three children graduate from Hoban. Rosalie was a grade school teacher, and Chuck was a public school administrator. They found a home at Hoban, and Chuck became a Board member and then finished his career as Dean of Students at Hoban. The recipient of this award should be a well-rounded, involved, hard-working student.

Roman Catholic students who value the opportunity to receive a Catholic education, but who have a financial burden are eligible for this scholarship.

The Michael Kempel '66 Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of Michael, an Archbishop Hoban High School graduate, who gave his life as a medical corpsman attached to a Marine unit in Vietnam.  Michael died while saving the lives of others.  "Greater love hath no man than this ..."  This scholarship should be awarded to a deserving student who works to his or her ability. This is a need-based scholarship.

The Morris Family Scholarship is offered to City of Akron minority students who show superior academic ability and achievement. Hoban Placement Test scores and past grade history will help determine the recipient. Demonstrated financial need will also be a factor in awarding the scholarship.

The Mueller Family Scholarship should be awarded to well-rounded students with financial need whose academic achievements are commensurate with their ability and who contribute to the Hoban community through involvement in co-curricular activities.

The three Mungo brothers (Jim ‘63; Richard ‘64; and Paul ‘70) established this scholarship to help hard-working, well-rounded students with financial need attend Archbishop Hoban High School. 

Dennis Murphy '57 is a member of the first graduating class of Hoban and was President of the Alumni Association, a member of the Board of Directors, and a long-time phonathon caller who raised money for scholarships and financial aid. Dennis saw first-hand the need that families have and was impressed with the students he came in contact with. He and his wife, Brenda, created this scholarship to help students and families with demonstrated financial need attend Hoban. Well-rounded, involved students who work to their academic potential will be considered for this award.

This Norman Maynard Scholarship is available to students with financial need who are actively involved in the Hoban community. This scholarship is awarded to students whose performance at Hoban shows solid academic achievement and generous involvement.

Pat & Rita Garro were loyal Hoban supporters. They had six children and four grandchildren graduate from Hoban. The recipient of this scholarship will be a parishioner or graduate of Saint Matthew Parish, Holy Spirit Parish (Uniontown), Saint Bernard Parish or Saint Mary Parish or grade school. Students should be well-rounded and show financial need. High academic success in grade school is not needed. The willingness to work hard and strong desire to be a Hoban knight is the major requirement.

This fund is set up by the Wichman kids to commemorate 1981 Archbishop Hoban graduate, Peggy Wichman (Neecolant). This scholarship is intended to go to a well-rounded, spirited individual from Immaculate Heart of Mary. 

This scholarship was founded in the hope that every student who wants a Catholic education may have the opportunity. This scholarship should be awarded to well-rounded students who have shown an interest in studies, athletics and fellow students.

This scholarship was created in memory of Ralph L. & Florence A. Bernard. The recipient(s) should have no less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA and not be in the top 10% of the incoming freshman class (GPA and entrance exam testing). This scholarship is meant for students of working-class families where a financial hardship exists. Students will be awarded 1/2 tuition for all four years as long as they stay in good standing. 

Learn More about the Ralph L. and Florence A. Bernard Scholarship

Raymond Pritt '58 was a good student and athlete at Archbishop Hoban High School. He and his family (wife and four children) were killed in a plane crash in 1973. The recipient of this award should be a hard-working student, involved in the school and demonstrate leadership.

This scholarship was created by Jim Burke '67 and Bernie Zaucha '64 to honor Reverend Thomas Zeisig, retired pastor of St. Eugene Parish. This scholarship is available to students from Catholic grade schools who are committed to a Hoban education and are well-rounded, involved and willing to work hard.  

The Reverend Paul J. Rosing Scholarship is to be awarded to a member of Holy Family Parish who has financial need and who shows potential for Christian leadership.

This scholarship was established for students from Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish (IHM) who choose to attend Hoban, Fr. Tom McCann's alma mater. Recipients will be well-rounded, involved and good students with some demonstrated financial need.

Dick Malloy was a legendary Cross Country Coach and English teacher at Hoban in the 1960's and 1970's. He is remembered fondly by his former students and runners. A calming presence with a sharp, dry sense of humor, Hoban students were greeted every morning by the sounds of classical music coming from his classroom. The recipient of this scholarship should be a well-rounded, involved, hard-working student with financial need. 

This scholarship was established in memory of Richard Duffy, CEO of the Akron Automobile Club (AAA), Hoban Board member, President of the Hoban Trust Fund and exceptional volunteer -- A true "Friend of Hoban."  Recipients should demonstrate financial need and be well-rounded and involved students.

Robert Cohen did not attend Archbishop Hoban High School, but he has been impressed with the school and the quality of the education provided. This scholarship is for students with potential who will benefit from the Hoban experience. Average to above average students who may need a structured environment and a little prodding are ideal candidates. Financial need is a must.

Terrence Ruip ’67 and his wife Patricia established the Ruip Family Scholarship intended to be used for students with financial need who want to receive a Holy Cross education at Archbishop Hoban High School. Recipients of this scholarship should be hard working, well-rounded and involved in the school community. 

Two generations of the Scala family have attended Archbishop Hoban High School, and the family has generously supported the school since the mid 1960's. The Scala Family Scholarship will be presented to two incoming freshmen, one from Holy Family Parish and one from our pool of scholarship applicants, including those applying from public schools. The students receiving the scholarship should be well-rounded, involved in co-curricular activities and maintain grades commensurate with their abilities. Scholarship awardees should also show some financial need.

Ben Schlater and wife Jennifer established the Schlater Family Scholarship intended to be used for students with financial need interested in receiving a Holy Cross education at Archbishop Hoban High School. The student recipients of this scholarship should be hardworking, well-rounded, and involved in the school community with a reasonable financial need to attend Hoban. This scholarship should encompass students from any grade school, public or private schools who meet the criteria from above.

Fred Schmitt ' 95 received the Bernard Scholarship while attending Hoban. Even then he knew that one day he wanted to start his own scholarship to help students and families just as he was helped. The Schmitt Family Scholarship also honors his parents and the efforts they put forth for Fred and his siblings to attend Hoban. The recipients should be of good character, hard-working, involved in cocurriculars and work to their academic potential. 

Sergeant First Class Johnnie Downs is a retired US Army veteran who served in the military in three wars – Vietnam, Persian Gulf War and Afghanistan. Sergeant Downs is establishing this scholarship to honor his family. His grandchildren Troy Deck, Chyenne Downs and Bree Downs graduated from Archbishop Hoban. To show his appreciation and celebrate their achievements, Sergeant Downs is creating this scholarship to enable other deserving students to benefit from a Hoban education. This scholarship should be given to deserving students with financial need. Recipients should work to their academic ability and contribute to the Hoban community through involvement in cocurricular activities.

Sharon Brown Ulman ’86 was no stranger to emergency medical care. She spent her entire adult life battling Crohn's Disease in one form or another and it ultimately manifested itself into Stage IV Colon Cancer. In the weeks prior to her death, Sharon was forced to utilize the EMS system many times and they were always there for her. In appreciation for all first responders, this scholarship has been created to financially assist first responder’s families who wish to provide their children a quality education at Hoban High School, where Sharon also attended and from where she graduated in 1986.

This is a renewable need-based scholarship. The student recipient(s) of this scholarship should come from a family with a parent who works as a first responder, EMT, Fire Fighter or Police Officer. The family should have a reasonable financial need to attend Hoban. This scholarship should encompass students from any grade school, public or private schools who meet the criteria from above. The recipient should be a hardworking, well-rounded student should show a strong desire to attend Hoban and the discipline to reach his or her potential while attending Hoban.

The Sisler McFawn Foundation Scholarship is awarded to well-rounded students with financial need who reside in Akron or Summit County.

The Sister Stephanie Mueller Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to students who show the traits of Sister Stephanie, who lived to be 100. She taught at Archbishop Hoban for 11 years, was dedicated, hard-working and industrious. Catholic grade school students who have those traits and some demonstrated financial need are eligible.  

The Sisters of Humility of Mary created this scholarship in 2005 to help Catholic students with need attend Archbishop Hoban High School.  Recipients should be hard-working, involved and model Catholic values.

The Slinger Family Scholarship is offered to students from St. Francis de Sales School or parish who desire a Holy Cross education at Archbishop Hoban High School. Students should be involved in the Hoban community and achieve grades commensurate with their ability. Preference will be given to students with financial need.

This scholarship is anonymously funded for students who have the desire and the ability to achieve in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. The recipient of this award will show past achievement in these areas and have some demonstrated financial need.

The St. Brendan / Annie Moore Scholarship provides financial assistance to highly motivated incoming freshmen with outstanding academic achievement. This scholarship is in memory of deceased members of the AOH/ LAOH. The recipient should be in good standing with their Parish and school and demonstrate an active role in both their Parish and School. The motto of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) is Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity. The recipient should possess and/or demonstrate all of these principles.

Stephen Patrick Stetz '07 was "Born to be a Knight."  He wore Hoban shirts under his dress shirts to 7th grade visitations at all the other Catholic schools. A gold football helmet was on display in his Holy Cross College dorm room and his Chicago apartment. He thought he had attended the best high school possible. Recipients of this scholarship should have a burning desire to attend Hoban and be extremely involved in the Hoban community. Students whose parents or grandparents attended Hoban will be shown preference. 

The Sitko Family Scholarship is open to well-rounded, involved students with financial need.  Students should contribute to the entire Hoban community through their co-curricular activities and their community involvement.

The Dimengo Family Scholarship will be awarded to a well-rounded student who works to his or her academic potential, is involved in the school community and has some financial need.

Tim Griffith and Tom Goodall of the Class of 1966 were classmates, life-long friends, founders of the Hoban Alumni Association, and then Hoban parents. They both remained involved with Hoban until their untimely passings. The recipients of this scholarship should be involved in the culture of the school, work to their academic ability and have some financial need. The most important attribute of the recipient is to be involved.

From 1962 to 1975, Tony Paris served Archbishop Hoban High School in a variety of capacities: head football coach, assistant football coach, assistant basketball coach, guidance counselor, and teacher. Tony and his wife, Hazel, sent two children, numerous grandchildren and great
grandchildren to Archbishop Hoban. This scholarship should focus on families with more than one student attending Hoban with a financial need. Recipients should participate in extracurricular activities while attending Hoban.

The Wayne M. Jones '72 Scholarship is for hard-working, well-rounded students who will be involved in the Hoban community. Some demonstrated financial need must be shown to receive this scholarship.

The Zaucha Family Scholarship is a renewable partial scholarship awarded to students capable of high academic achievement who make significant contributions to student life at Hoban. Recipients will be expected to maintain excellent grades and participate in at least one co-curricular activity and engage in a community service program. 

Terry J. Nolan '65 established this scholarship in memory of his parents. This scholarship will provide assistance to a senior who holds a part-time job and whose intention is to study business or nursing in college. Open to students at the end of their junior year.

Two awards of $500 each are one-year, non-renewable scholarships presented to incoming freshman students by the Hoban Student Council to honor the memory of Donna Ray, Class of '83.

Oversight by Business Office & Administration

The Kelly Reeves Memorial Scholarship was established by Bob and Cathy Reeves to honor their daughter, Kelly. This scholarship provides emergency tuition assistance to families in crisis who have suffered extenuating circumstances (such as death of a parent, loss of employment, catastrophic illness, divorce) that strains their finances and ability for their child to continue his/her education at Archbishop Hoban.

This Fund was created to benefit students on the work crew. Jerry and Tamara Gonsiewski will donate money each year to reward students who are deemed the best of the work crew. These students will be selected by the Director of the Physical Plant (currently Mike Considine) to reward non-freshman work crew members who are reliable, dependable and continue working through their years at Hoban. Monetary gifts (for tuition assistance) will be awarded to no more than three work crew members each fall by the Director of the Physical Plant to reward the work crew members for their hard work and dedication. Awards will only be available for 10th, 11th and 12th graders. Amounts to be determined each year.  Students cannot receive support for more than two years.

To be awarded to one Hoban senior each spring at Honors Night to be used at the college or university of his or her choice.

The Tarle Family Scholarship should be given to a City of Akron public school student who has the desire and ability to improve academically at Archbishop Hoban. The recipient could possibly have an opportunity to work for the Tarle's company.

This scholarship is awarded to students of Italian-American heritage. 

This achievement scholarship is awarded to current Hoban students who have excelled in math and science classes. These scholarships will be awarded to 10th, 11th & 12th graders based on their math and science achievements at Hoban and teacher recommendations.
