The Parent-Student Handbook serves as an important reference guide for Hoban parents and students. While we have highlighted several important policies and procedures, it is important to carefully read and review the entire handbook with your student.
Attendance
Parents or guardians must call the attendance office at 330.773.6658 to report a student absent for the day. A written follow-up excuse from a parent or guardian must be submitted to the attendance office the next day. A student will also need to bring a note from his or her parents or guardian to the attendance office on the morning an early dismissal is requested. No students will be permitted to leave school grounds early for any circumstance unless a signed note can be obtained either in person or by fax. Too many tardies will result in a detention, and excessive tardies beyond eight will result in Knight School. Additional rules and regulations in regards to Attendance can be found in the handbook on pages 25-26.
Dress Code
The Hoban Administration expects you to be in dress code for the first day of school. If immediate changes to hair color, hair style, or body piercings can’t be made, you will be required to stay home from school until you are compliant with the Hoban dress code. Please review all policies on hair length and appropriate colors, piercings, skirt/short length, Hoban polos, and Hoban outerwear. Polos must be purchased through Hoban website under the “Quicklinks” tab under school uniforms, or must be an approved athletic or club polo. Pants should be docker style or patch pocket dress pants. Denim, yoga pants or pants with rips, ornamentation or alterations are not permissible. Pants must be modest and appropriate fit for school culture. Only Hoban crewneck sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts, and quarter zips are permitted to be worn over a Hoban school polo. Skirts and shorts must conform to “fingertip” length. Additional rules and regulations can be found in the handbook on pages 28-30.
Disciplinary Procedures
The disciplinary procedures at Hoban include warnings, detentions, behavioral contracts, Knight School, parent meetings, suspensions, and, under serious circumstances, expulsion. A co-curricular practice or competition is not a valid excuse for not serving a disciplinary consequence. Further explanation can be found on pages 31-34 regarding the rules and procedures utilized by Hoban.
Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Prevention
The Hoban community empowers students to make responsible choices to avoid alcohol and drugs. As part of the student wellness initiative, Hoban has established the Student Wellness: Drug and Alcohol Awareness and Prevention Policy. The policy focuses on student-parent communication, restorative support and recognition of the moral significance of drug and alcohol abuse. Prevention, not punishment, is the primary focus of this policy. Further explanation regarding the wellness policy can be found starting on page 22.
