New Students

Typical School Hours

• The building opens at 7 a.m. every school day.
• Students who arrive early may stay in the Holy Cross Center (student center) prior to the start of class.
• On regular school days, students should be in class and ready to learn at 7:55 a.m. 
• On late-start days, students should be in class and ready to learn at 9:10 a.m. All late-start days are published on the school calendar. 
• Students are dismissed from class at 2:50 p.m. 
• Students not involved in school-sponsored activities may stay in the Holy Cross Center, which is supervised, until 6 p.m. if they are waiting to be picked up from school.

The Christian service project is a graduation requirement in the Theology curriculum. Each student is required to complete the hours of service based on their grade level. In March, students reflect, write and present their service experience with members of their theology class.

Freshman Service Hour Requirements 

• 10 hours of direct service with ONE service organization. Students may not piece together hours from multiple agencies. 
• Service sites must provide students with the opportunity to directly interact with the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized members of our community.
• The service site must be approved before a student can begin their service hours. 
• Students will not be allowed to complete their hours at a site that does not offer opportunities to directly serve the poor, marginalized, or vulnerable. Places such as Vacation Bible School, PSR, retreats, sports camps or pet shelters will not be approved as a service site. These organizations do not provide opportunities for direct service with the poor or marginalized.
• Completion of the pre-approval form and all hours are logged using the site www.x2VOL.com. Students will create an account using their Hoban email address. 

Service hours are due on Friday, April 9, 2027. Students may begin working towards their hour requirement on June 1, 2026. It is recommended that students work on their service hours in the summertime when the demands of academics and cocurriculars are not as great.

J.A.M.: Hoban’s Summer Service Program 
J.A.M. is Hoban's summer Christian service program. Read all the provided information carefully before filling out the application. J.A.M. applications are due by 3 p.m. on Friday, March 20. Please note: space is limited, and not all students who apply will be selected to attend.

Students' course schedules will be uploaded to your MyHoban in late August. For questions about schedules and course placement, contact your school counselor. School counselors are out of the building during June and July, but they will address questions and concerns upon their return in August.

Each of your teachers will provide a list after the start of the school year regarding any supplies and materials you will need for the course. On the first days of school, you can be prepared for class by bringing your Hoban iPad, a notebook and pen or pencil. 

Hoban's Office of Communications manages school-wide communications, including email and SMS text messaging. The email and cell phone number in your student's MyHoban account will be used for important school communications. If you make a change to either, you will need to update your MyHoban account.

Let’s make sure Hoban email goes straight to your inbox. We recommend following these quick steps:

• Gmail users: Move us to your primary inbox.
  • On your phone? Hit the 3 dots at the top right corner, click “Move to” then “Primary.”
  • On desktop? Drag and drop a Hoban email into the “Primary” tab near the top left of your screen
• Apple mail users: Tap on our email address at the top of an email (next to “From:” on mobile) and click “Add to VIPs”

SCHOOLSTATUS CONNECT [SMS text and voice call messages]

Hoban uses a SchoolStatus Connect for school-to-parent communication. SchoolStatus Connect allows parents and guardians to receive SMS text messages and messages through a mobile app. The following information is critical for parents and families to receive helpful reminders and timely alerts, including snow/cold day closures.

YOUR ACCOUNT

Using your contact information in MyHoban, your account has already been created! If your information is incorrect in MyHoban, you will not receive notifications. Please remember to update your contact information if you change phone numbers and/or email addresses. 

ADDING CO-PARENTS

SchoolStatus Connect generates accounts only for people who have "Parental Access" in MyHoban (Parental Access = you can log in and see your student's grades). Parents and guardians can add co-parents to their child's account in SchoolStatus. Co-parents will then receive information sent via SchoolStatus. Click here to learn how to add a co-parent. 

NOTIFICATIONS

Your account's default notification preference is "SMS + App." This system's intended use is to send messages through SMS text messages and on the app's centralized feed (no one needs more email).

MOBILE APP

If you prefer to have access to SchoolStatus Connect messages on your mobile device, you can choose to download the SchoolStatus Connect mobile app.

PACKING YOUR LUNCH

• Microwaves are available in the cafeteria for student use.

PURCHASING YOUR LUNCH

• Advance orders are not required.
• Weekly menus (showing the daily entree) are available online.
• Salad bar, pizza and a sandwich station are available daily. Soup is available when the weather gets cold.
• A la carte items include: chips, desserts and mushy cookies.
• Cash or Mealtime account payments are accepted.

MEALTIME ACCOUNTS

• ONLINE ACCOUNT ACCESS TO MEALTIME WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AUG. 20, 2026. 
• All Hoban students have a Mealtime Account to track and manage lunch spending.
  • Parents can make deposits online or in school (sending checks/cash into school will help to avoid credit card processing fees).
  • Line-item details of every purchase are available.
  • Automatic balance notifications will be sent.
• Parents should sign up to access and manage their child’s account:

  • You’ll need your child’s Student ID. You can find it in your child’s MyHoban account. (Login, find your child’s name in the top left corner, and navigate to the Contact Card tab).

Hoban iPads

• Every Hoban student receives a school-issued iPad, keyboard case and stylus. Students are encouraged to personalize and decorate their iPad cases.
• Students will keep these devices throughout their Hoban enrollment and return them prior to graduation. 
• The general App Store is not available; only pre-approved educational apps are available for installation.
• These devices are insured for normal/accidental damage.

iPad Orientation

Dates

• August 2, 2026, 2-6 p.m.
• August 6, 2026, Noon-3 p.m.
• August 24, 2026 | Makeup appointments only

Details

• Every incoming Hoban student should make an appointment to attend iPad Orientation along with at least one parent. 
• Students will work through orientation at their own pace. Some people can finish in as few as 20 minutes; others will need up to 45 minutes.
• Registration will open in July via New Student Checklists in MyHoban.
• Students unable to attend a session will attend a Makeup iPad Orientation at 3 p.m. on August 24 (First Day of School for New Students). Parents will not join their students for the Makeup iPad Orientation.

Step 1: Account Creation and Validation

• Parents and students should NOT create FinalForms accounts. Hoban Athletics will create accounts for all students and their families.

• Confirmation emails will be sent to parents and students' Hoban email accounts once this process is complete. (For the incoming Class of 2030, accounts will be created on April 15, 2026.)

Hoban's dress code helps create an environment that prioritizes learning and safety, and it enhances our school identity and unifies the student body.

UNIFORM SHIRTS (REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS)

HOBAN STORE

Hoban Store Hours are updated on Twitter (X). 

• A Hoban uniform shirt is required for all students.
• A Hoban uniform shirt must be worn at all times.  If a student chooses to wear outerwear over the Hoban uniform shirt, it must be Hoban branded.
• All non-Hoban outerwear and coats must be stored in their assigned locker.

PANTS AND SLACKS

• Permitted for all students.
• Docker-style pants.
• Full-length; boot leg, straight-cut, jogger style or flare are permissible.
• Only acceptable colors: black, gray, khaki, brown, maroon, olive green and navy.
• Pants must be modest and appropriate fit for school culture.
• Not permitted: pants with prints or patterns of any kind or style.
• Permitted: patch pockets as long as the pants are not denim material.
• Not permitted: pants with rips, splits or frayed hems.
• Not permitted: side stripes, patches or ornamentation.

SHORTS

• Permitted for all students.
• Permitted: dress-style shorts (casual or golf).
• Shorts must pass the fingertip test but are not to reach the calf.
• Not permitted: shorts with rips, splits or frayed hems.
• Administrators reserve the right to disapprove any shorts that do not conform to a Catholic school atmosphere.

UNIFORM SKIRTS

• Permitted for female students
• SCHOOLBELLES (Online orders)
• KIDS KLOSET (Shop in-store)

Any alteration or rolling of the skirt will result in the forfeiture of wearing skirts for the remainder of the school year. Skirt length must extend past the fingertip in length and leggings must touch the ankle.

FOOTWEAR

The only acceptable shoes for school each day will be tennis/athletic shoes. Boots may be worn during the winter months (November-March).  Boots must be at least ankle height and cannot extend past the mid-calf. Casual-style shoes such as HeyDudes, Sanuks, boating shoes, etc. are prohibited.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES FOR GIRLS

• Moderate, natural hair color highlights are permitted and must occur throughout the hair.
• Not permitted: extreme, unusual and distracting hairstyles and color.
• Earrings are limited to a maximum of three (3) in each ear.
• Not permitted: body piercings of any other kind during the school day. Piercings may not be covered by Band-Aids.
• The use of makeup must be modest and appropriate.
• Permissible: Appropriate hair accessories.
• Hairstyles associated with religious or cultural identities will be considered.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES FOR BOYS

• Hair is to be neatly groomed.
• Hair color must be a natural hair color.  
• Facial hair should be clean and neat. The length of facial hair cannot go beyond a clipper set less than Number 1. 
• Not permitted: any distracting hairstyles or headbands.
• Not permitted: body piercings of any other kind during the school day. Band-aids may not cover or disguise piercings.
• Hairstyles associated with religious or cultural identities will be considered.

Families wishing to connect with others interested in carpooling can connect via the 2026-27 Carpool Directory Signup. This form is available in the Resources section of Blackbaud.

Each class level has a parent/family Facebook Group that is used to communicate class-specific and special school-related information. It is not mandatory to join. All important information will also be shared via email. However, the Facebook Groups are a great space to ask questions, share ideas and information and meet other Hoban parents.
